Phlox Postpartum doula services, is founded on a desire to support women and families.
Because what happens in the first 42 days after the birth of a child, can influence the next 42 years of a mother’s life.
My journey to supporting women started all the way back in high school when I took my first yoga classes. It was there that I began to understand what it meant to sit in circle with women and be supported by women. I went on to complete a 200hr yoga teacher training in Sydney in my late 20’s, and then the Mama Tree Prenatal teacher training with Jane Austin in San Francisco. It was under Jane’s guidance that the spark was lit, and I knew supporting women in some capacity was where I was going in life. It wasn’t until I came out of the other side of my own postpartum, where my experience was lonely and isolated, I dreaded the sun going down each evening because I wasn’t getting nearly enough sleep, I was googling all the things, and trying to bond with my baby, establish breastfeeding, while also keeping a household running and entertaining visitors. I realised there is so much work to be done supporting mothers. So here I am, ready to support you, should you need me.
How can I support you?
I am here to ensure you feel supported, respected and rested in your postpartum period.
Have you thought about your postpartum preferences? Do you have dreams of how it will be once you’re home with your new baby? I invite you to share your wishes and fears with me, so we can make your dreams a reality!
If you imagine someone changing your linen, taking care of the washing, nourishing you with delicious foods and holding your baby while you rest, then that’s what I’ll do. If you wish for someone to help plan your postpartum period before your child is born, trouble shoot feeding and settling issues once your baby is here, listen to you in full support while you unpack your birthing experience, set up a meal train from your village and give some extra love to adjusting siblings, then that is what I will do.
Whatever is going to bring you the most peace and joy, so you can rest, recover, and bond with your baby, I am here to support you.
The transition to motherhood in the western world is far too often isolating, exhausting, anxiety inducing and an experience to ‘survive’. My mission is to help you and your family thrive during this sacred period, whether this is your transition to motherhood, or motherhood again, so you move into the next chapter of your lives richer and more full of abundance from your postpartum experience.
Making Mama’s well-being the priority
Dedicated to ensuring that Mama is supported, nourished and rested so she can bond with her Newborn Child, and the whole family can thrive
These 40 days can also determine your next 40 years. Ysha Oakes, Ayurvedic doula and postpartum educator summed it up beautifully:
“After birth there’s a sacred window of time. A time for complete rejuvenation of a woman’s physical, mental and spiritual health. A time for deep, extended bonding with her newborn. The first 42 days after birth set the stage for her next 42 years.”
